Do Spouses Look and Think Alike??

Filed Under (Fact and Fancy, Short Writings) by WendyF on 04-07-2008

Our anniversary is coming up on July 14th and just thought I would fire that question out there. We will be married all of 35 years. Know idea where the time has gone.

What are your thoughts on it? Do we actually start to look alike and think alike?? I am the one holding our new Granddaughter and hubby is the dude in the dark suit beside me. Yes I posted a real pic of us. (Don’t tell my hubby LOL)

Fact be known as partners we do think a lot alike. I find that Hubby have a scary link. I know when he is going to phone or even worse he will call and tell me what I am cooking for dinner. He is right 99% of the time.

Yes there are some studies out there that determine people who live with each other for 25 years actually develop similar facial features. Do I believe it?? Do you??

I will say something and Hubby will state that is exactly what I was going say.

Is it true that that partners that play together stay together??

Manatees Love Drinking Fresh Water

Filed Under (Fact and Fancy) by WendyF on 26-05-2008

Manatees love drinking fresh water. We were spending part of winter in Florida at Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge when this huge manatee came right in to where the all the boats were tied up.

Out of the blue someone said it is thirsty and ran to get the hose. I couldn’t believe it. The Manatee took the hose right into it’s mouth and started to drink. I was totally blown away.
For almost an hour it stayed there sucking up fresh water. Unbelievable!!

Manatees can be found in the warm waters of shallow rivers, bays, estuaries and coastal waters. Rarely do individuals venture into waters that are below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Can’t say as I blame them in the least bit. Who on earth wants to be cold.
In cold weather, manatees must move to a spring, a place where warm water (72 degrees) comes up out of the ground and makes a river.

Sounds just like us Snow Birds. LOL

Manatees can live in salt water or fresh water, but if they are in salt water too long, they must find fresh water to drink.

Bee Stings!!!

Filed Under (Fact and Fancy) by WendyF on 25-05-2008

This information may be something to remember, as this season will soon be here
again…

It might be wise to carry a penny in your pocket while working
in the yard……… BEE STINGS !

A couple of weeks ago, I was stung by both a bee and hornet while working in the garden.

My arm swelled up, so I went to the doctor. The clinic gave me cream and an
antihistamine. The next day the swelling was getting progressively worse, so I
went to my regular doctor. The arm was Infected and needed an
antibiotic. The doctor told me - ‘ The next time you get stung, put a penny on
the bite for 15 minutes’.

That night, my niece was stung by two bees. I looked at the bite and it had already
started to swell. So, I taped a penny to her arm for 15 minutes. The next morning,
there was no sign of a bite. We decided that she just wasn’t allergic to the
sting.

Soon, I was gardening outside. I got stung again,
twice by a hornet on my left hand. I thought, here I go again to the
doctor for another antibiotic.

I promptly got my money out and taped two pennies to my bites, then sat
and sulked for 15 minutes. The penny took the string out of the bite immediately.

In the meantime the hornets were attacking, and my friend was stung on the thumb.
Again the penny. The next morning I could only see the spot where the hornet had
stung me. No redness, no swelling. My friend’s sting was the same; couldn’t even tell
where she had been stung.

She got stung again a few days later upon her back—cutting the grass!
And the penny worked once again.

Wanted to share this marvelous information in case you experience the
same problem. We need to keep a stock of pennies on hand .

The doctor said that the copper in the penny counteracts the bite. It definitely works!

Please remember and pass this information on to your friends, children,
grandchildren, etc.

Iconic Terry Fox van to be restored

Filed Under (Fact and Fancy) by WendyF on 24-05-2008

The Econoline van that was Terry Fox’s home on the road for 143 days during his 1980 Marathon of Hope is being restored.

The van was left behind in Thunder Bay and his family lost track of it after Fox was forced to stop his run outside the northwestern Ontario city when his cancer returned.

In 1977, Fox’s right leg had been amputated above his knee after he was diagnosed at age 18 with bone cancer.

On April 12, 1980, Fox dipped his artificial foot in the Atlantic Ocean off St. John’s, N.L., and began his Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research.

He ran about 42 kilometres each day no matter the weather — freezing rain, high winds, even snow, with….

The mysterious forest rings of Northern Ontario

Filed Under (Fact and Fancy) by WendyF on 24-05-2008

An Ontario Geological Survey map of documented forest rings in Northern Ontario. Note that the size of the rings on the map is to show the distribution of different-sized rings, they are not proportional to the map scale. (Courtesy Ontario Geological Survey)

It is a strange phenomenon: thousands of large, perfectly round “forest rings” dot the boreal landscape of northern Ontario.

From the air, these mysterious light-coloured rings of stunted tree growth are clearly visible, but on the ground, you could walk right through them without noticing them. They range in diameter from 30 metres to 2 kilometres, with the average ring measuring about 91 metres across. Over 2,000 of these forest rings have been documented, but scientists estimate the actual number is more than 8,000.

What causes these near-perfect circles in the forest?
