Group pushes for smoke-free beaches

Filed Under (News) by WendyF on 14-08-2008

This is just insane and a huge crock of BS!!!!

Who do they think is going to enforce such laws. Like our officers don’t have enough to do.

Read about it here Smoke Free Beaches

How stupid is that. If our smoking is polluting the air then perhaps they  should look at banning driving of cars. Or industries that pollute our air faithfully ever day.

Bad enough that Ontario will now charge parents for smoking in a vehicle where kids are present. That to is idiotic.

Do they think for one minute that the vehicle is totally smoke free. Sure they get out to smoke but get in smelling like cigarette smoke or worse.

If it is pollution they are worried about they should ban driving and a million other things that harm our kids besides smoking.

If smoking is truly that bad (which I know it is) they why not pull them off the market altogether and making it against the law to smoke. Period!!!

Smokers cannot be damaging the environment to such a detrimental level that we need to waste more tax dollars and time on this crap. Sorry if people are offended, but there are more important issues to be handled

Possibly a New Knife Registery!!!

Filed Under (News) by WendyF on 02-08-2008

Greyhound BusMan stabbed, beheaded on Greyhound bus by apparent stranger.

What a tragic and senseless incident. Although I am sure incident is not the proper word to be used in this context.

I do not understand how one could even think of taking a person life. Let alone decapitate and wave a severed head at horrified witnesses standing outside. Then return to the body and continue chopping him up some more.

Enough to make you sick just reading about it. Imagine how the other passengers must have felt witnessing such a putrid murder.

Makes you wonder what people are thinking or what possesses them to do such a crazed killing. Especially if it was unprovoked.

Quote: “Our drivers are trained to provide the safest travel for all our passengers, and every time an incident occurs they know to pull the bus over and call 911.”

What would happen in areas where 911 doesn’t work. For a fact where I live cell phones don’t work while traveling some huge locations. Which is miles and miles long. What then?? How do they contact anyone for assistance??

I have travelled from my home town in Northern Ontario to Sault Ste Marie and the dead spots are extensive. With no 911 assistance nor use of cell phones. That is approximately 3 1/2 hours of nothing, not even radio reception.

On occasion I have counted perhaps 10 vehicles on the whole trip which takes 4 1/2 hours. Scary thought wouldn’t you say?? I would dread having to wait for emergency crews or OPP help. You would or could be there for hours before help arrives.

When I first heard of this it was mentioned on the new about a Knife Registry. What a farce that is. A totally complete idiotic idea. The Gun Registry didn’t work why would they try another?

It’s ludicrous to think the bad guys are going to register any thing.

I think they should hang the SOB !!! Course he will probably get sent to a mental institution and get a slap on the wrist for it.
Justice!! I guess we will have to see the outcome.

Games banned from School Playgrounds!!!

Filed Under (News, Short Writings) by WendyF on 30-07-2008

Game of TagWhat will they think of next??

I mean really in truly why would games such as Dodge ball, tag, soccer and touch football be banned from school yards?? Run around a field tagging people? What are they thinking, they could scrape their knee. Dodgeball was banned because of safety issues and injuries that are sometimes involved in the game. Throw a foam-filled ball at another student to get them “out?

These were common school yard games when I went to school and never recalled anyone getting hurt or breaking any bones.

Banned games of tag, saying they violate a no-touching policy. Seriously!! I think that is ludicrous.  Kids can still play tag in physical education classes, however, where they’ll be closely supervised by a teacher.

Aren’t teachers suppose to be supervising recess in the first place. They most certainly did when  I went to school. Not just a select few teachers on the playground but all of them. Give me a break.

If contact sports or touch sports are so hurtful for our youngsters then why not just go ahead and ban all adult sports as well.

Say football, hockey and perhaps soccer as well. Injuries occur and fights break out.

Seems to me that our country is over doing things a bit much. Don’t YOU??

Children’s Feet Burned

Dangerous Flaw Found In Protective Playground Mats

You may not realize it, but at your favorite local playground there may be an unlikely hidden danger that can send your children to the emergency room: rubber mats designed to actually protect children when they fall.

While the mats can cushion a fall, they become incredibly dangerous on hot days when the blistering sun causes

Now that just isn’t right!!!

What on earth ever happened to common sense when building parks and play grounds for our children?? Weren’t they aware that dark colours (colors) get hot in the summer sun??

Why on earth can’t they use plain old grass like we used to have when we grew up??

Crustacean Elation

Filed Under (News) by WendyF on 11-07-2008

A seafood shop in Shediac, N.B., called the Big Fish is showing off a big catch.

A 10-kilogram male lobster is currently for sale at the fish market for $1,000.

The crustacean, which has been named Big Dee-Dee, was caught in the Bay of Fundy and is believed to be about 100 years old.

“[He's] probably really smart to avoid the trap for that many years,” said Big Fish owner Denis Breau.

Big Dee-Dee is quickly becoming a tourist attraction in the small coastal town of about 5,500.

Ontario tourist Helen Medina brought a measuring tape when she stopped in to see the large lobster. Big Dee-Dee was “unbelievable,” she said.

Vanessa Hiltz also stopped into the shop to see the catch.

“I’ve never seen anything this big,” Hiltz said. “My family is from Nova Scotia so I’ve eaten lobster but never anything this big.”

Big Dee-Dee is a rare catch, Breau said. “His big claws are perfect,” he said. “All the small claws are perfect. It’s just a beautiful lobster.”

The lobster’s buyer will have to boil Big Dee-Dee for at least three hours if they’re going to eat him, Breau said.

“It’s almost like a big roast, ” Breau said. “If you cook it right, it’s just as good as a small one.”

Did you know the Largest Lobster ever caught weighed in at 44 -pound (20-kilogram). Pictures and story below.
